The only dog we would consider was if Pilot Dogs happened to call. But was the likelihood of that?!? We had applied for another retired seeing-eye dog before we moved but it had taken over 2 years for them to call when Garth came up for adoption.
Guess who called on Monday? Yep... it was Pilot dogs. What were those odds? They had a seven year-old retired golden retriever named Demi who was looking to spend her retirement in our home. They wanted to know if we wanted her... how could we say 'no'? So, a few days later, on my day off, I drove to Columbus to pick her up.
When I got home, Garth met his new sister and companion in the driveway. After a few smells, sniffs and lots of tail wags, we brought Demi inside. It was just a matter of minutes before she settled in.
Elise woke up from her nap to meet her new doggie. She loves that Demi likes to play ball down the hallway and enjoys having various bones chosen for her... as Garth (and Brutus) isn't much for playing and getting wild.
By the time evening rolled around, it seemed like Demi had been a part of our family forever. She has no problem finding a place to lay down and relax wherever the family may be. She's so gentle and loving. Garth enjoys having someone to sleep near again when it's bedtime and a buddy to walk around with when he's in the yard. Demi enjoys having her forever home where she no longer has to work but can actually be a dog. We are blessed to have found a perfect fit. We know Brutus would approve...
